Often people need to get rid of the white areas surrounding an object.
X3 was the first version of the CorelDRAW suite that allowed users to copy a selected area (or floating layer also) in Photo-PAINT to the Windows Clipboard, and then simply Paste it into a CorelDRAW document. The 8-bit Alpha Channel is preserved (8-bits means variable levels of transparency).
If you need to clip out lots of images in Photo-PAINT, Magic Erase helps.
Anyway... copying and pasting directly is an important feature, since it avoids the step of having to export that element first to an intermediate location as a file. Here's an animation from X4:
